1. extend (v.) 延伸、延長

說明公司的近況，例如：extend our business hours（延長我們的營業時間）。

Can’t you extend your visit for a few days, and stay a few days longer?
你不能多停留幾天嗎？

2. notify (v.) 通知、知會

notify sb. of sth. 是「通知某人某事」的意思，這邊用的介系詞是of。和notify相似的字有inform和tell。

This email is to notify us that meeting time has changed.
這封電子郵件是要通知我們開會時間的更動。

3. restate (v.) 重申、重新敘述

將這個字拆成re- 和state來看，state當動詞時是指「聲明、陳述」，re- 是拉丁文字首，意為back或again，意指「回到、又、再」。

As your teacher, I restate the importance of this project because it will be a turning point in your learning process.
身為你們的老師，我重申這個專案的重要性，因為它將會是你學習歷程中的一個轉捩點。

4. affirm (v.) 確實、肯定

常聽到新聞報導說某單位「肯定地證實」某事，可以說affirm doubtless。意思相近的字詞為confirm。

The government affirmed that the accident was caused by human error.
政府證實這次的意外是人為疏失。

5. issue (v.) 發行；(n.) 問題、發行物

issue動名詞同形，意思如上，補充：make an issue of sth.（對某事小題大作）。

Don’t avoid the issue; I want you to answer my question.
不要逃避，我要你回答我的問題。

6. inform (v.) 通知

商業書信經常用來通知某事，而「通知」就會使用inform這個動詞。常見用法是inform sb. of/about sth.，指「通知某人某件事情」。

Has the secretary informed you that the meeting was rescheduled?
秘書有通知你會議時間改了嗎？

7. enclose (v.) 附上

信函或其他投遞的信件中常常會附上其他相關文件資料，這邊的「附上」稱為enclose。而電子郵件中的「附加」則可以用attach這個動詞，如第八點解釋。

Please enclose your certificate of enrollment when submitting your CV.
投遞履歷時，請同時附上在學證明。

8. attach (v.) 把…附加在

attach和上一個單字enclose最大的差別在於：enclose是用於實體信件；而attach是用於電子郵件中的附件。搭配attach的介系詞是 to，而附件的名詞是attachment。

Please double check the complete marketing proposal attached to the mail.
請再次確認信末附上的完整行銷企劃書。

9. convene (v.) 集會、召集

con- 是表示「共同、合併」的字首，而 -vene這個字根是指to come，合併起來也就能聯想到「聚集、集會」的意思了。

Tom convened a meeting of members on the marketing team.

layout在此為名詞，而layout drawing是「佈置圖、草圖」，layout area是「藍圖規劃區」。

11. stationery (n.) 文具、信紙

stationer則是「文具商」，容易和stationery搞混的stationary是形容詞，表示「靜止的、不動的」。在拼法上只有a和e的差別，要特別注意拼字！

由於電子郵件的普及，愈來愈少公司購買品質良好的文具。

12. circular (n.) 通知、公告、傳單；(adj.) 圓形的、循環的

circular當形容詞時有好幾種搭配用法：circular disk是「圓盤」，circular movement則是物理學中的「圓周運動」。circulation是指「循環（尤指血液出入心臟之運行）或發行量」，血液循環叫做blood circulation，改善血液循環則可以說improve blood circulation。

Our school issues a circular biweekly.
我們學校每兩週發行一份公告。

13. banner (n.) 橫幅；(adj.) 優秀的

亦作a banner advertisement，指網路或報紙上的標題式廣告。under the banner of這個片語是指「以⋯⋯為名號」、「打著⋯⋯旗號」。

我在實習期間負責的工作是設計橫幅與廣告。

14. campaign (n.) 活動

activity、event和campaign都是指「活動、事件」，但這三個字實際上還是有差別的。activity是指「（某一團體的）特殊活動」，通常是為了達到某一目的或是娛樂效果的活動；event是指「重大的事件」；campaign則是指選舉相關等社會活動。

We started a campaign against smoking.

15. dictate (n.) 命令、規定、影響；(v.) 口述

dictate動名詞同形，補充：dicate to sb. （指揮某人怎麼做）。

It took him an hour to dictate this letter.
他花了一個鐘頭口述這封信。

16. signature (n.) 署名、簽名

signature是指合約或文件上的簽名。正式書信的最後都必須附上結尾敬語和簽名檔，而簽名的區域稱為signature block，包括姓名(name)、職稱(title)、公司名稱(company)、聯絡資訊(contact information)等。補充：名人的親筆簽名則稱為autograph。

另外，VoiceTube再分享一個有趣的詞彙：signature dishes，它是「招牌菜」的意思。這邊的signature解釋為「招牌事蹟」或「獨有的特色」，招牌動作是signature move，廣播或電視節目的主題曲可以說signature tune。

寄送信件都必須要付郵資，而郵票稱作postage stamp。

和legible意思相似的字詞有clear和readable。容易和legible混淆的字是eligible，意思是「合格的、合適的」。

19. cohesive (adj.) 凝聚性的
